WELCOME TO
ST. MONICA'S PRAYER GROUP
Joining together spiritually in
Friday prayer and fasting for our children

File:Sainte Monique.jpg

(Patron Saint of Wives and Mothers)
"It is not possible that the son of so many tears should perish."
Saint Monica, pray for our children and those that love them.

As parents, we are all concerned for our children, especially given the culture we live in. They are bombarded daily via the internet, TV and media, with ideas contrary to Catholic teaching. It is very difficult for them to "swim against the current" - but as Mary has reminded us many times, there is a sure and simple way we can help them - "pray, my children, pray..."
I strongly suspect that if we saw all the difference even the tiniest of our prayers to God make, and all the people those little prayers were destined to affect, and all the consequences of those effects down through the centuries, we would be so paralyzed with awe at the power of prayer that we would be unable to get up off our knees for the rest of our lives. ~ Peter Kreeft

St Monica, Pray for Us!

With our children beginning a new school year, especially those who are leaving the nest for the first time, and those with challenging academic years ahead of them, it's the perfect time to join other parents in praying the Novena to St. Monica.  And how easy is this...the quick novena prayer can be delivered to your inbox daily by registering at Pray More Novenas.  God Bless all of our children!

Great Reads for Lent...

Does your spiritual life need a little kick in the pants - a little boost?  Well, check out these wonderful reads that we stumbled upon!  Happy Lent!

Magnetic Christianity - using your God-given gifts to build the kingdom
*****This book gets 5 stars!  A must read and one you can't put down.

Sinner - by none other than The Catholic Guy Lino Rulli.  A hilarious read - Lino's story of his attempts to be a good Catholic in today's world.

The Carpenter's Cloth - by Sigmund Brouwer.  A representation of what it would have been like to be a first hand witness of Jesus' journey to His Passion and beyond. Beautiful, riveting, and yes, graphic details of the scourging, crowning and crucifixion that reminds us all just how much He loves us.  Each time you read this, you will see the events of the Passion with new eyes.

The Little Way of Lent - Meditations in the spirit of St. Therese.

30 Days To Taming Your Tongue - what you say (and don't say) will improve your relationships.   Ouch!  This one really convicted me!  This is one of Immaculee's favorite books.  By the way, if you haven't read her two books Left To Tell, and Led by Faith:  Rising from the Ashes of the Rwandan Genocide, these would be excellent reads for Lent as well.

Another great resource for Lent:  The Busted Halo Show's Fast-Pray-Give Calendar!  A different thought and way to put your faith into action every day of Lent, so you'll never get stuck in a rut!

Religious Liberty At Stake - The Catholic Church and the HHS Mandate

Praise God for priests like Fr. Sammie Maletta who gave a stirring homily on the evils and dangers of the HHS Mandate, which the Obama administration is attempting to force the Catholic Church to capitulate to.  Please take a few minutes to watch this video - Mother Church is the one voice in this world today that continually stands for the truth and we must fight to preserve that voice!  You can also view the video at GusLloyd.com

We are on a slippery slope indeed folks.  We need to act now to protect our religious liberty - now and for our children in the future.  How?  Contact your senators, pray, fast and leave the rest to God.  A few Rosaries would certainly by helpful too!

Well, it's about time we had something new on this blog isn't it?  So sorry, trying to keep two up and going I seem to get tunnel vision.  Anyway, a really cool friend of mine gave me an awesome cd from Dynamic Catholic.  She had to pry it out of my hands to get it back - it was really that good, even after listening to it three times!

Consider this:  When 70% of Catholics don't go to Mass on Sunday, isn't it time to do something bold?  That's the mission of Dynamic Catholic in a nutshell.

Here's the link to their site DynamicCatholic.com

Here are a few of the wonders you'll find on this site:

  • Videos such as Is the Mass Boring?  -- You'll never see the Mass the same way again after listening to this story.
  • 100 great things happening in the Catholic Church today
  • Catholic Moments and Everyday life
  • 2011 Reading List - did you know (it's shameful really) that Catholics on the whole read one book or less per year that is considered spiritual reading?  And that most of our Protestant and Evangelical brothers and sisters read 3 or more books to enhance their spiritual life?  Looks like we could use a little inspiration doesn't it?!
  • There's lots more, this is just the tip of the iceberg.  Go, now, and check it out!
